Sometimes conversations about God/Jesus can be hard, awkward, non-existent or uncomfortable at best. Often we want to talk with others about God, but just don’t know how to get the ball rolling. Death, illness, baptism are easier topics to start with, but thankfully those first two topics don’t come up all that often. And baptism, well, that does not come up all that often either!
So, if Jesus has called and commanded us to love others and share the Good News about Him with others, how are we to start these conversations?
During this last 13-month pandemic, all studies show that most people have struggled in one way or another. Whether it’s financially, childcare, illness, fear, work scheduling, isolation – all of these factors have left the world looking for relief and hope. People are looking for help. God in Jesus Christ is the best and only eternal help for our hurting world right now. That may sound like a Hallmark card, but it is the truth. No matter the pain, God in Jesus Christ brings help, hope, healing, forgiveness, direction, peace, love, relief.
So, if your family, friends, and neighbors are truly looking for pandemic hope, how are we to get them into conversations about the hope of life in Jesus?
Here are some easy steps:
- Step #1: Pray. Simply ask God. “Lord, open the door today for me to speak with someone about you. Open the door for me to serve someone today in Your name. Jesus, begin an easy-going conversation with someone in my life today about you.” I know this may sound too simple, but God will use your prayer. He really will.
- Step #2: Invite them to come to Alpha. Our next Alpha Course begins Tuesday March 9th – Free childcare, free catered dinner, and lots of non-judgmental conversations about God and the spiritual life. Our Alpha Team will love your family, friend or neighbor well. Send them to this link to learn more and register: https://chsroanoke.com/ministries/alpha/. You can come with them if they want you to or they can come by themselves. Either way we will welcome them with open arms. Click here to watch a short Alpha promo video.
- Step #3: Be ready, ‘cause God is going to use you. God is working His plan of love, hope, grace, and forgiveness in this world and wants to use you in this plan. With prayer, invites to Alpha, open ears, hearts, and minds to God in Christ, God is going to move in lives.
Since 1977, over 24 million people have taken the Alpha Course in over 169 countries and over 112 languages. Our Alpha Course here at CHS is one of the best places to help folks explore the God who knows and loves them. Come be a part of Alpha at CHS this March 2021 and invite your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Believe you me, they are asking questions about God and they want you to help them in this spiritual journey through the pandemic of 2020-2021.
