Confession. My favorite song of all time is “If I Ain’t Got You,” by Alicia Keys. It joined Paul Simon’s, “You Can Call Me Al” and Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” as my 3 must-play songs at my wedding. But nothing has, or will, ever take the place of “If I Ain’t Got You.” In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few decades, click here to listen to the song. Go ahead and put that tasty jam on while you read the E-news. You won’t regret it.
What could that possibly have to do with anything? You might recall that the worship team has been writing music to record! I’m thrilled to tell you that we have moved forward and begun the recording process with our producer. Before you know it, your 17 year old is going to be listening to a CHS original worship track on 1-song-repeat, rocking a CHS graphic T-shirt, and enjoying the sight of a Jeff Gregory autographed Stratocaster…….
Okay maybe not. In fact, creating music as a worship team isn’t about any of that. Instead, it is the culmination of much prayer, practice, passion, and inspiration. In these songs are Scriptures, stories, and the gospel. Confession. I had never in my life written an original song until this project. But as I’ve walked alongside our gifted musicians and songwriters in this process, I’ve been reminded of Psalm 96.
“Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise”
Thank you for supporting us as we dive into this world of creative worship. It has blessed our team tremendously. It has brought us closer to one another and to the Lord. I pray that this will be the first of many albums we are able to create, filled with music that glorifies the Lord and shares the gospel with a lost & broken world. And who knows, maybe we can get my girl Alicia to come sing with us for Christmas Eve one year. A guy can dream, right?!!
