Hello, my name is Helen. I am a grateful believer in Jesus Christ and am in recovery for codependency, food issues, and depression. Every Monday night at Celebrate Recovery, I introduce myself in this way.

You might be saying, what an unusual way to introduce yourself. Let me explain.

First, my name is Helen…unique, beloved child of God. Next, I am so grateful that I have a relationship with Christ. Finally, I verbally admit the issues that separate me from Christ. Acknowledging these issues publicly, helps me stay out of denial.

To ‘qualify’ for Celebrate Recovery, you must have a Hurt, Habit, or Hang-up!

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I was raised going to church. After two failed marriages, I knew something was wrong within me.  I vowed to heal…no matter what it took. Though I attended church and was seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord, something seemed to be missing. The people in my local church seemed to have ‘perfect lives’. My life was definitely not ‘perfect’.

Since my life had been affected by the drinking of someone else, I began going to Al-Anon. Al-Anon is for people who have been affected by someone else’s drinking. Gradually I discovered that the 12 Steps were merely a tool/recipe for developing a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord. Eureka! A methodical tool to grow in my relationship with the Lord and begin to heal within myself.

Fast forward several years – like 22 years – Church of the Holy Spirit began Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery is a 12 Step program, but we identify Christ as our ‘higher power’.

For the last ten years, we have met every Monday night.  At 6 pm, we have a yummy home cooked dinner together and great fellowship. Our Large Group begins at 7pm. In Large Group, we begin with praise and worship followed by either a teaching or a testimony. After Large Groups we break into small, gender specific groups. Currently our small groups are Men’s Sexual Purity Issues, Men’s Chemical Dependency, and Men’s A-Z (if your issues do not fit into the other groups). On the women’s side we have Love and Relationship Issues, Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families, Abuse, Chemical Addiction, and A-Z. After the small groups, we have dessert and fellowship.

If you have a hurt, habit, or hang-up, we have a seat for you! Come celebrate with us about what the Lord is doing in our lives. We meet weekly in the Fellowship Hall here at Church of the Holy Spirit.

We would love to see you on Monday nights. Come join us.
