Church family, we are so grateful to God that he sent us (The Rev) Brian Morgan as our new priest over Adult Ministries (minus women’s ministry). Brian has a clear calling from God, outstanding character, love and wisdom. He has managed and coached up to 91 Life Group leaders and 600 men in a vibrant men’s ministry. He has two Master’s degrees and has been ordained as an Anglican priest for over 15 years!
Brian actually was an active member during his time at Roanoke College in 1991-1992. We knew each other well and were both volunteer leaders with Young Life. His rector and bishop, my friend +Steve wood has sent him to us with his blessing.
Following is Brian’s bio. He, wife Beth, daughter Hannah (age 15) and Noah (age 10) paint a beautiful picture.
I was born in Oregon, raised in Washington and have also lived in North Carolina, Illinois, California, South Carolina and Virginia. You might say I am an east coast, west coast, northwest, southerner with a Midwest kind of view on life. But at the heart of my life and family is Jesus Christ. I was rescued and changed by the love of God found in Jesus Christ while in high school and knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life telling others about this incredible grace and love found in Him.
My first two years in college I attended Roanoke College and went to Church of the Holy Spirit from 1991 – 1992. That is where I met (Bishop) Quigg and where I first began to be intentionally discipled into a growing follower of Jesus Christ. After Roanoke my wife, Beth and I met at Appalachian State where I got my college degree. Beth and I got married and headed off to seminary. Three years at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA and two more years of seminary at Virginia Seminary set me in a Gospel centered trajectory for the rest of my ministry calling. Our daughter Hannah was born while I attended Virginia Theological Seminary.
In 2002, I received my first calling and was ordained a Deacon and then a Priest while serving as an Assistant Priest and Youth Pastor in Concord, NC at All Saint’s Episcopal Church. Our son Noah was born there in Concord and we had a wonderful five years serving and discipling students, families and people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
In 2007, we moved to Mt. Pleasant where I have been serving for 9.5 years at St. Andrew’s Church ~ Anglican. For 7 years I oversaw our small group ministry, our premarital mentoring process, preached and officiated at regular Sunday services. In 2014, I took on our Men’s Ministry and handed off our small group ministry.
What gets me most excited about Church of the Holy Spirit is the mission of making healthy disciples in Jesus Christ and equipping and discipling those healthy disciples who will in turn partner with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit to grow more healthy disciples. Your 5 G’s of Growth, Gather, Gifts, Generosity and Groups look like just how I see ministry in the story of God found in both the Old and New Testaments. We are honored, humbled and excited for this new season of joining CHS. We always seek to grow our family and personal roots deep and wide in the local church where I am on staff. I know CHS will be a gift to us and our prayer is that we will be a gift to you.
