Meet the CHS Staff Family:

Bob Blecksmith

Bob and his wife Teresa were first introduced to the Anglican tradition by attending Church of the Holy Spirit in the early 2000’s whenever they visited their oldest daughter, Sarah Rachel Janney and her family who were members of CHS. Even as visitors over the next decade, they saw the love and commitment of the people at CHS. In 2013, Bob retired from a 28-year career in the FBI and he and Teresa became members of an Anglican church in northern VA, serving in various lay ministries. It was their youngest daughter, Becky McLaughlin and her husband Will (then on staff at CHS) who spied out a 113-year-old house in South Roanoke, prompting them to buy it and move here in 2018. Bob and Teresa also have two other married daughters, Anne who lives in Fredericksburg, VA with her family and Elizabeth who lives in Greenville, SC with her family.

Shortly after arriving at CHS and becoming members, Bob was asked to be on the Vestry, eventually serving as both Junior and Senior Warden. After his term ended, Teresa was asked to be a Vestry member. Bob and Teresa likewise looked for opportunities to serve at CHS as Lay Eucharistic Ministers and as Chalice Ministers. Bob was also a Lay Reader and Teresa serves as the Emergency Prayer Team coordinator. Hosting and teaching their Lifegroup has been a true delight.

It was during this time, that Bob started feeling the Holy Spirit’s nudging about the possibility of serving Jesus and the CHS family in a new and different role, culminating in his ordination as a Deacon in July, 2024. He considers it a joy and privilege in assisting Deacon Barbara and the Pastor/Priests of CHS in whatever way possible.
