Psalm 82:3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and destitute.
As I child, I remember singing “Jesus loves the little children” in Sunday School. What an applicable song as we strive to meet the needs of vulnerable children and families in our local community in Jesus’ name. We are so excited that our church is launching a new partnership with referring agencies, churches and families in the Roanoke Valley through an organization called CarePortal.
In a brief explanation, CarePortal is an online platform that connects churches with the needs of vulnerable families and children in our community. Respected organizations such as Roanoke Department of Social Services or the Rescue Mission can post basic needs of a family to local churches. Fulfilling these needs can radically change the trajectory of their vulnerable situation. This helps us keep families together, prevents children from going into foster care, and supports children already in the system. What does this mean for our church body and how can you get involved?
1. Serve on the Response Team- We are looking for several church members to be willing to form a team of responders to visit the families in need and deliver the items that are needed. We will be holding training and support for all of those interested.
2. Give– We will be sending out requests through Life Groups to meet the needs in the community. An example of a request would be grocery cards, beds, clothing for children and shoes.
3. Pray– We are asking everyone to commit this ministry to prayer as we come alongside families in need in our community.
It is going to take each one of us to make a difference in our community. Won’t you join me? Please email me at email@example.com for more information or to get involved today.
