“16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
Now that the school year has kicked off, our ministry year is getting ready to kick-off as well. We want to invite you to jump in more fully to the life of discipleship here at Church of the Holy Spirit. Our mission here at COTHS is “Healthy Disciples Making Healthy Disciples in Jesus Christ.” So, to that end, we have 4 easy next steps for you to choose from.
Step #1: Come to one of our Connections Coffees. This event is new and happens five times per year. Our next one is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 14 from 7-8:30 PM in the church library. This Coffee is for all newcomers and visitors. At this dessert and coffee, you can get to know the pastors as well as learn about the 5 G’s, the building blocks of our Vision and Mission. You will hear some of the history of our church as well as learn about our missional focus and Anglican history. Finally, we will end with a time of Questions and Answers. This first step is easy, engaging, and who can say no to good coffee. No registration is required, just show up. You can CLICK HERE to learn more or email Brian Morgan if you have any questions.
Step #2: Take the Alpha Course. Our next step is to join with others for our 8-week Alpha Course. At an Alpha course, people explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting during eight thought-provoking weekly sessions, along with a one-day session. Any question is welcomed. People come from many different backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints – but all come with the same objective: to establish whether Jesus Christ has any real relevance for their lives. Dinner and childcare are free. Each night consists of a meal, a video and a small group discussion. For those exploring Christianity, those hurt or not sure about the church or those wanting a basic Christian refresher, Alpha is perfect for you. Our next course begins Tuesday, Sept. 19. Click here to learn more and register.
Step #3: Take the Foundations Course. This new course meets for 12 weeks on Tuesday nights with free dinner and childcare. The Foundations Course will not only teach “head” knowledge and information about being a disciple of Christ, but it will also instruct in spiritual practices, explore some of the foundational Christian doctrines of prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Creeds, and our Anglican Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Whereas the Alpha course is great for those searching out who Christ is and what the Gospel is, the Foundations Course will equip both members and newcomers to go deeper and grow as confident, passionate servants of Christ. This course is also our one requirement to become a church member. Our next course begins Tuesday, Sept. 19. Click here to learn more and register.
Step #4: Life Together – Join a Life Group
Small groups are a pivotal part of how we make disciples at Church of the Holy Spirit. We call our small groups “Life” groups because we consider them a venue where we “do life” together in Christian community. Prayer, bible study, outreach and meaningful Christ-centered community ground our disciple making process in the biblical model of small groups. CLICK HERE to learn more and find a group.
Which next step is right for you and/or your family? You decide. Most of all, we just want to encourage you and walk with you in your next steps in exploring and growing as a healthy disciple of Jesus Christ.
